The Transformative power of poultry project

Our beneficiaries under the poultry project undertake regular meetings scheduled for every
Sunday at 4pm (EAT). In these meetings, they deliberate on the progress of their poultry
project, the challenges they face, and opportunities for growth. The project coordinator, from
time to time, attends these meetings for monitoring and evaluation purposes. It is also during
these meetings that the transformative power of the project begins to emerge. In one instance,
one of our beneficiaries, who is a widow and mother of three, narrated how she struggled to
make ends meet. She had few resources and relied solely on traditional farming methods that
barely provided enough food for her family. Hope began to show when she enrolled in this
smallholder poultry project. The project provided her with a new poultry house, chicks,
vaccines, and training on poultry management.

Today, her poultry project is thriving. She now has over 100 healthy indigenous chickens
producing eggs regularly. The income she generates from selling eggs and surplus chicks has
stabilized her household finances. Her children are enrolled in school, and she can afford
basic healthcare. Moreover, she has become a community trainer, sharing her knowledge and
inspiring others to join the project. We are currently engaging her in this second phase of the
project to share with the new entrants her experience of the project.
